Keewee High Performance Bikes was established in 1991 by designer and engineer, Trev Porter. Trev was accustomed to quality and things that go fast – he spent 5 years in Formula One racing, improving engines and fine tuning parts. He owned an Engineering firm in Hamilton and traveled extensively through-out NZ and around the world. Requests to Trev’s company were wide and varied – making custom Harley Davidson models through to restoring Jet Boats and Formula One cars. It was on one of Trev’s trips to the U.S where he discovered DH mountain biking. He was hooked. He also became wary of how the American bikes could cope on NZ terrains and meet the needs of the serious Kiwi rider, so he came back to NZ and tinkered in his shed. He built from scratch a frame, and became passionate about the sport long before most Kiwis were giving up their Raleigh 20s and discovering the beauty of DH. Trev's mates saw his masterpiece and asked him to build them the same bike. His mates were his toughest critics - and everyone always wanted something a little different. This frame however, no-one could fault – his 3 year attention to design, detail and quality was simply the best around. Avanti wanted a piece of the action so Trev custom built a DH design to suit their budget and market. Trev also continued passionately under the Keewee logo with a committed team in Hamilton. Design, production, quality control, after sales service, marketing, events - thousands of Keewee bikes were sold during this time, giving him back in sales, over a quarter of the DH bike market. In 2002 he combined forces with Torpedo7, developing a wider range of models; Jump/Dirt bikes through to Trail/Freeride. A recent introduction of road bikes has seen Keewee go the full circle. New branding, logo, website and apparel now support the Keewee legacy. Stock availability and information is available at Torpedo7.com.. Today, Trev is a shareholder atTorpedo7 and heads up the design and purchasing team. He is a well respected member of the biking community and is an all round good guy. |
